All Christian education classes begin at 9:45 AM each Sunday morning.  Just remember:

"Nine fourty-five, time to arrive.  Ten 'til ten, time to begin."

Adult Classes

Asbury Class

The Asbury Class is a fun-loving, trivia playing group always ready for food and fellowship.  We try to make visitors feel welcome and encourage those looking for a church home to visit us and, hopefully, choose Bethany and the Asbury Class.  We strongly support mission work, have excellent teachers and are very open and receptive to differing views.  Our class is never boring because there is always another opinion or point of view expressed.  At times we don't agree, but we always look at new ideas and accept those who express them.  Humor is very important in our class, and we like to think of ourselves as the "youngest" middle agers at Bethany.

Edna Rivers Class

The Edna Rivers Class consists of single and married adults in their 40's & 50's. They describe themselves as "zany." They are a small class that care very much for one another. They have a very strong prayer emphasis and participate in social events as a class.

Garth Davison Bible Study Class

This class is comprised of members mostly in their 40's and 50's. The Adult Bible Studies series is generally used as study material. Occasionally personalized lessons are used. Both incorporate interactive discussion. There is a wide range of interests and activities including the annual "Pig-Nic", dinner outings for families and adults, and the traditional Christmas party.

Koinonia Class

The Koinonia Class consists mainly of couples in their 40s and 50s. We have volunteer teachers with a discussion format. Our curriculum includes Bible studies, current religious issues and video and audio series by well-known Christian authors. We enjoy several social events every year with our families.

Anyone is welcome to join us on Sunday mornings in the first classroom next to the church office.

Lanford Class

In a lecture and group discussion style, this class studies various material examining Christian beliefs and applying them to all aspects of life. The Lanford Class consists mainly of single and married young adults. Many have young children. Many members are active in the choir and several committees throughout the Church. They also enjoy fellowship outside the classroom through social gatherings.

Ray White Class

The Ray White Class is made up of a group of caring and friendly people who are generally mid-fifties and above. We are totally committed to the concerns and well-being of the total group, and we always answer the call when needed. Hugging is a common practice.

We especially enjoy singing praises to the Lord and enjoy the fellowship the group promotes. We are active in various ministries and missions at Bethany and in the community. We are very organized and supportive. Socials are enjoyed quarterly as well as on other special occasions.

The class is currently involved in the Adult Bible Studies series. The five alternating teachers are excellent and lead in both lecture and discussion.

If you are someone who enjoys fellowship, laughter and Christian education, please come and check us out.

Welden Class

The Welden Class was started in 1978 and was named after former minister, James Welden. It has approximately 30 members and is mostly made up of early retirees or those who want to be retired – most are in their 50s and 60s. Many share the joy of being grandparents. Several members divide up the responsibility of teaching the class which usually leads to lively discussions. We take our church responsibilities seriously and often volunteer to feed our youth and MUST Ministries.

We welcome new friends and encourage you to join us on our monthly social outings to local Atlanta attractions and to members’ homes.

Wesley Class

As the name implies, this class was named after the founder of Methodism, John Wesley, and is the eldest of the adult classes of Bethany UMC, all very senior citizens, but also active in support of church programs and generous with their material resources. Currently, we have 43 on roll plus some shutins and average attendance around 30. An event where fellowship, food and fun abound takes place four times during the year ending with a Christmas party where officers for the coming year are installed. Mission outreach includes the Methodist Children's Home, Murphy-Harpst Vashti, Welsey Community Centers, Inc., Smyrna M.U.S.T., New Horizons, a semi-boot camp for first time youth offenders located near Calhoun, GA. The Adult Bible Studies is our study and resource material and team teaching by the lecture and discussion method. We are a diverse and caring group. If you are 65 and up, come check us out.

College & Young Adults

This class is designed to provide our post-high school young adults a place to study the scriptures with their contemporaries and to discuss issues unique to this age group.  All young adults are invited to be a part of this growing class.
